Puck Soetens

“If Only I Could Paint” is a photographic translation of what I see and what I would like to paint or draw. In this work, I explore the space between photography, painting, and drawing. My aim is to move photography away from its traditional role of recording reality, without referring to the style of nineteenth-century painting.

I look for ways in which a photograph can feel like a painting or a drawing, not by copying historical styles, but by focusing on texture, color, and sensory experience.

Puck Soetens (1970) lives and works in The Hague. In 2014, she completed her studies at the Fotoacademie in Rotterdam. Since then, she has been working as an independent portrait and fine art photographer.
