Bastiaan Koot

My name is Bastiaan Koot. I live and work in Amsterdam. I completed the Photo Academy in the past. During my graduation I mainly made self-portraits, I still do, but nowadays I am mainly outside, in the neighborhood, the Amsterdamse Bos, the Noorder-IJplas, the Twiske and sometimes a little further away on the Loire. 

Maybe it’s that child in me, my originality, but I still feel just like then that there is more than we can see. While photographing, I try to peel open reality a bit to see what is behind it. A kind of twilight of reality. 

I am quite nostalgic and see the images as memories that I cannot hold onto. Immediately after something has happened, the thought of that moment becomes a personal experience, just not exactly reality. I find that fact interesting to play with. No big reasons, but a complex combination of circumstances in the form of a daydream.
