Annemiek van der Kuil
Annemiek van der Kuil is fascinated by the passing of time and the fragile nature of memory. Time leaves behind traces that fade, transform, or disappear. In her still visual poems, she balances the melancholy of what is passing with the quiet beauty of the present moment. Her work holds what briefly exists, and then is gone for good. The series Songs of Silence is an ode to impermanence.
Rooted in personal loss and shaped by quiet observation, Songs of Silence captures fleeting moments, mostly in nature, that mirror the transitions between life and death. With minimalist, earthy images, Annemiek preserves what is slipping away. Each image becomes a space where something unspoken lingers, suspended between here and gone. A cloud passing, light touching a branch, a moment of pause. For a breath, we are fully present.
Alongside her fine art practice, Annemiek specialises in portrait photography. Here too, the passing of time plays a central role. Working both in her studio at the Eemklooster in Amersfoort and on location, she creates portraits that hold a moment of presence, shaped by attentiveness, calm, and a sensitivity to natural beauty, allowing something lasting to emerge from what is fleeting.
