Paul van Riel throughout his career travelled extensively in Asia and the Americas on assignments from leading Dutch and international publications including National Geographic. He frequented for fifteen years the international fashion scene by covering the spring and autumn ready-to-wear shows in Paris, accumulating catwalk and backstage images of almost 1.000 shows.

Personal projects were exhibited at (a.o.) Paris Photo, Nikon Salon – Tokyo, Okura Flagship hotel – _Tokyo, Canon Gallery – Amsterdam, Japan Museum SieboldHuis, Museum Volkenkunde – Leiden, Cobra Museum of Modern Art – Amstelveen, Museum Jan – _Amstelveen, Stedelijk Museum – Amsterdam, Kunstmuseum – The Hague.
