In the 1980s I discovered a way to take long exposures with my Polaroid SX-70. I shot long exposures in the dark, filling in the staged objects and people with colored light. When Polaroid disappeared, that work was left as a short-term project. Digital photography offered new possibilities, but the intimacy of the small picture in a passe-partout had disappeared. The appeal of the small size now became a given for me. Either I use an existing Polaroid or I make a facsimile. These form the basis for an extra dimension. The photographic image as a substrate and a third dimension added with other visual material. A collage of various materials. The power of the small.
